Vote Buying Rocks Bayelsa Governorship Election Amidst Heavy Security Presence

The Bayelsa State gubernatorial election on Saturday was marred with vote buying amidst the heavy presence of some police officers at the polling unit.

Naija News learned that numerous voters were being allegedly directed by two gentlemen, with a lady seated comfortably at the polling unit for settlement after voting.

According to The Nation, some policemen were seen directing voters where to collect money, while some voters approached a journalist team to show their voter cards, thinking they were part of those distributing money.

One of the voters had to give his ballot paper to one of those involved to vet before casting the ballot.

In some cases, the voters did not cast the ballot after thumb printing.

Meanwhile, agents of political parties contesting in the ongoing governorship election in Kogi State, on Saturday, were seen offering financial inducement to voters to vote for their candidates in Lokoja, the state capital.

The agents stationed themselves about 500 meters away from polling units, from where they gave money to voters to lure them to vote for their candidates.

The amount given to voters ranged from ₦3,000 to ₦5,000, depending on their personality or bargaining power.

A voter is expected to present his Permanent Voter Card (PVC) as a precondition to collecting the money.

Some beneficiaries who spoke with journalists revealed that the agents distributing the cash had been moving from one polling booth to another.
