Manchester United and England football legend, Sir Bobby Charlton didn’t die a natural death based on the evidence presented at his inquest today, November 1.

The evidence proved that Bobby Charlton died after falling by accident at a care facility.

Recall that Charlton was pronounced dead on October 21, 2023, at the Macclesfield General Hospital at the age of 86.

At the Cheshire Coroner’s Court inquest, it was disclosed that Sir Bobby resided at The Willows, a Knutsford assisted living facility designed specifically for people with dementia.

Jacqueline Devonish, the senior coroner for Cheshire, declared his death to be an accident.

During the hearing, Sir Bobby is said to have struck a window sill and “possibly a radiator” after falling off his chair.

When staff examined his entire body at the time, they found no obvious injuries and noted that his mobility seemed unaffected.

After noticing swelling on his back, the center, where he had been receiving care since July, called for medical attention.

After that, he was taken to a nearby hospital and then moved to Macclesfield General Hospital.

A chest X-ray and CT scan revealed he had broken his ribs and was likely going to get pneumonia, according to evidence presented at the inquest.

After they reached an agreement, Sir Bobby’s physicians started end-of-life care, and he died five days later.

Hence, the cause of death was determined by the coroner to be lung trauma, dementia, and a fall.

Regarded by many as one of England’s greatest ever, Sir Bobby was instrumental in the 1966 Three Lions World Cup victory.

During his 17-year first-team career at United, he won three league titles, an FA Cup, and a European Cup.
