Bandits Abduct Taraba Varsity Students

Some gunmen suspected to be bandits have reportedly killed the traditional ruler of Garin Moddibo town in Taraba State, Alhaji Muhammadu.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Tuesday revealed that the monarch’s wife and son were also whisked away when the assailants invaded the town located a few kilometres away from Sunkani headquarters of Ardo- Kola Local Government Area of the state on Monday night at about 11.30 pm.

Aside from the monarch’s family members, the bandits also reportedly abducted four other people in the town before leaving for two neighbouring villages where they kidnapped four villagers, including a nursing mother.

While the motive behind the killing of the monarch is still umknown, Daily Trust quoted sources in the area as saying that the late traditional ruler had been backing youths in the area in protecting the community against intruders especially kidnappers.

Hunters led by the state chairman of Hunters Association, Dantala Adamu, are said to be seaching forest and mountains in a bid to rescue the abducted persons.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of Ardo-Kola LGA, Dalhatu Kawu, said he has informed Taraba State government of the matter.

“Our local government area is under the seige of bandits and they are kidnapping our people day and night and right now special police force and hunters are doing their best to arrest the situation,” he said.

The spokesman for the Taraba State Police Command, SP Usman Abdullahi, also confirmed the incident but did not give further details when he was reportedly contacted by the news platform.
