Parents Of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz Kidnapped

The parents of Liverpool winger, Luis Diaz, were victims of kidnapping recently in his home country, Colombian.

Local media outlets have reported that the parents of Luis Diaz – Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda were kidnapped by armed men on motorcycles when they were at a gas station in the La Guajira region.

The 26-year-old Colombia winger who is expected to be in action against Nottingham Forest in a Premier League game scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. later today, October 29, has not made any official reaction to the incident.

However, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro has confirmed the report, announcing that the footballer’s mother was released on Saturday, October 28, but the father is still in the kidnapper’s den.

Petro shared on X that Luis Diaz’s mother was rescued in Barrancas, in the north of Columbia and the search for his father is still ongoing.

The president added, “We continue in the search for the father”.

General William Salamanca, the director of police, said he has sent out intelligence agents in addition to other local police departments to continue to hunt for Diaz’s father.

In a chat with Colombian media earlier on Saturday, the director of police said, the police are “already involved, right now, in carrying out checkpoints, identifying people on motorbikes, private-public service vehicles … for the recovery of the two kidnapped people, the father and mother of the footballer Luis Díaz.”

The Colombian Attorney General’s Office claims that they have been putting a lot of effort into the case.

The office wrote on X: “From the moment the Attorney General’s Office learned of the kidnapping of the parents of the Colombian player Luis Díaz, in the Barrancas sector of La Guajira, a specialized team of prosecutors, police and military personnel have been working to find “the location of these people, clarify the facts and find those responsible”.

Luis Diaz who made his international debut for Colombia on September 12, 2018, has played 43 times for the country and has scored 9 goals.

He moved from Porto to Liverpool for a transfer fee worth €47 million on January 30, 2020. Since then, he has played 331 times, scored 78 goals, and provided 38 assists.
