Frank Warren, the boxing promoter of Tyson Fury has insisted that it is unlikely that his client would take on Oleksandr Usyk on December 23rd.

In a contentious split decision, Tyson Fury defeated Francis Ngannou in a non-title bout held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, October 28, leaving the Briton boxer with a series of bruises on the face.

Before the bout, WBC champion Fury agreed to fight Ukrainian heavyweight fighter, Usyk who currently holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF.

Even though Fury beat French-Cameroonian heavyweight fighter Ngannou who crossed from Mixed Martial Arts to boxing by a score of 96-93 and 95-94, with the Cameroonian having 95-94, the Briton left the fight more physically affected.

Hence, Frank Warren doesn’t want his client to rush back to the ring this year even though there is already an agreement that the undefeated WBC champions must fight in the Riyadh season in Saudi Arabia which will end in March 2024.

“We were going to do it on 23 December. I doubt that will happen now,” Warren told the 5 Live boxing podcast.

“Tyson can’t be going into a camp after a tough fight like that. That’s eight weeks away.

“He needs at least a bit of time to get himself, his body, back into shape. Let it heal. Then get into a camp. It will be on early next year.”

He added, “‘Riyadh season’ finishes in March, so [Fury-Usyk] could take place up until March.”

Meanwhile, after the cross-over bout between Fury and Ngannou in Saudi Arabia, Usyk who watched the game from the ringside, insisted that the the December 23rd bout must go on as planned.

“We have a contract that says the fight has to take place on 23 December. Let Fury vacate his title first, then he can take his rest,” he told Boxing King Media.
