2023: Okey Bakassi Speaks On Getting Money From Politicians, Says Nothing Funny About Nigeria

Nollywood actor and comedian, Okey Bakassi has defended his decision to host a fundraising dinner for Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with colleague, Kate Henshaw.

Naija News earlier reported that Uzodinma, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held a fundraising dinner on Thursday, the same day the Supreme Court affirmed President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 election and dismissed the appeals of his major contenders Peter Obi of Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Okey Bakassi and his colleague, Kate Henshaw hosted the event, prompting some Nigerians to take to social media platforms to express their displeasure.

Reacting in a video shared via Instagram on Friday, Okey Bakassi stated that he hosted the event because it was a business decision and also for the fact that he is a professional MC.

He added that his decision to host the event should not be a subject of public opinion.

He said, “I’m surprised, why are we trending? Is it that people don’t know that we are professional MCs? Or is it because you don’t use our services you think nobody else will use our services?

“It doesn’t matter whether you are APC, PDP, Labour Party, Christian, Muslim, or Pegan, if you have an event and you need it to be done professionally, you know look for people who will give you value for money and this is where we come in, aim not going to discriminate based on your religion or political affiliation or even gender to do a professional job that’s what I’ve been doing for 30 years.

“I’m sure those who are close to me know how I voted in the last election and those that I voted, those who are close to me know where my heart is politically is not something that I need to explain every.

“I am a professional and I do my job well. I still have jobs that I don’t like to do, but it is up to me the ones that I won’t do, I’ll choose that, it is not subject to public opinion.”
