Enyimba head coach, Finidi George is optimistic that his team can overturn their disappointing 1-0 home defeat when they meet Wydad Casablanca on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Coach Finidi George and his boys are expected to be in Morocco today ahead of their Thursday’s clash with Wydad who defeated them in the first leg of the African Football League quarter-finals in Uyo.

Unlike Wydad who need just a draw to scale through to the money-spinning semi-finals round of the competition, Enyimba who are the reigning NPFL champions must win with a 2-0 scoreline to scale through or 1-0 to drag the tie into a penalty shootout.

Recall that the tie was initially expected to take place today, October 25, but had to be postponed to Thursday because the NPFL champions weren’t permitted to land in the city of Casablanca on Tuesday.

Ahead of the game which will kick off at 7 p.m. on October 26, coach Finidi George told Brila FM that if his players take their chances in the game, they would be able to overturn the scoreline and emerge victorious.

“Football is about goal scoring; if we had scored, the overall result would have been different,” Finidi said.

“In a couple of days, we will have the return leg. I’m happy that as much as we want to win the game, I’m happy that we lost by just 1-0, which gives us another opportunity to go over there and see if we can.

“If we have the same opportunities that we got here, if we can take one or two it’s going to be a different ball game.

“I’m quite optimistic about the second leg, but, unfortunately, we lost the first leg.”
