The Confederation of African Football (CAF) was forced to postpone the second leg of the African Football League quarter-final clash between Enyimba and Moroccan club, Wydad AC.

The reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba, were supposed to land in Casablanca, Morocco on Monday ahead of the AFL game that was initially scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25.

Unfortunately, Enyimba’s chattered flight was forced to return to Lagos International Airport when Moroccan authorities refused to permit the plane to land in Casablanca.

Enyimba are the only Nigerian team participating in the inaugural African Football League (AFL). The NPFL champions suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of the campaign against Wydad AC in Akwa Ibom last weekend.

They attempted to fly to Morocco on Monday for the return leg which they must win by 2-0 to scale through to the next round of the competition which will automatically earn them about $1.3 million.

After a six-hour and thirty-minute flight, the team was forced to return to their hotel, but they are still optimistic about overcoming the one-goal deficit at Godswill International Stadium in Uyo, according to Enyimba’s media manager, David Orji.

The media manager claimed that the Moroccan government and Wydad AC deliberately arranged the incident to frustrate Enyimba.

Also, the team’s management voiced their displeasure over the delay, saying it made it more difficult for the team to travel and take part in the AFL quarterfinal second-leg match.

Hence, Enyimba through the Nigeria Football Federation formally filed complaints with CAF, and the African football body has to postpone the game to Thursday, October 26. The kickoff time is still 7 p.m.
