Bandits Sack Seven Villages In Kebbi, Sokoto States

A former chairman of the Ngeski Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Garba Hassan, has been kidnapped by bandits in Niger State.

Reports obtained by Naija News revealed that Hassan and twelve other individuals were passengers on a commercial vehicle and travelling along the Tegina – Kontagora Road in the state on Thursday when bandits ambushed their vehicle and whisked them to an unknown destination.

The victims were reportedly en route to Kebbi State from Abuja when the gunmen intercepted their vehicle. It was gathered that the bandits had been hiding in the bush between Tegina and Kontagora town in Niger State.

Unfortunately for Hassan and the other passengers, they were forcefully taken to the bush, and their current whereabouts remain unknown.

The State Police Command, however, is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident as of the time of filing this report, Naija News understands.

“I will find out and get back to you,” the spokesperson of the Niger Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, told Channels Television when he was reportedly contacted on the incident.

Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, said they have heard about it, and are investigating the incident.

He assured that efforts are in top gear to rescue the abductees. Naija News understands that Hassan was the Ngeski local government chairman between 2007 and 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but later defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He was planning to return to APC before his kidnap, it was learnt.
