Manchester United defender, Luke Shaw, has described Nigerian winger, Victor Moses as the toughest opponent he has ever faced in his football career.

Luke Shaw, who is a prominent member of the Three Lions of England, has had the honor of playing with some of the biggest names in football throughout his career, but surprisingly, the left-back recalled meeting Moses during his early Southampton days and stated it was his hardest challenge.

During the 28-year-old’s first full senior season in 2013, Southampton hosted Chelsea in the FA Cup third round and lost 5-1.

Legends like Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole played for the Blues, but Moses’s performance was the best of the bunch from the perspective of Luke Shaw.

Shaw was only able to observe as the Nigerian’s deft half-volley goal against Southampton found the back of the net.

In 2013, the two met again and for the final time while Moses who is currently playing for Spartak Moscow in Russia was on loan at Liverpool.

However, Shaw seemed to be more impressed by Moses’s FA Cup performance against his former team, Southampton, than his experience with bigger names in the game.

He said, “People always think I’m joking, but one of my hardest games ever was against Moses when I was coming in as a 17-year-old at Southampton.

“Maybe because I was so young. He was really quick, direct, and strong and that was a challenge for me.

“I’ve played against the likes of Bale, Messi, and Hazard, and they were all so good, but I always remember Moses as a really tough opponent as well.”
