Riso, the agent of Newcastle United defensive midfielder, Sandro Tonali, has confirmed that the Italian footballer is addicted to betting.

Sandro Tonali joined Newcastle United from AC Milan on a permanent deal on July 3, 2023, for a transfer fee worth €64 million.

Even though the 23-year-old defensive midfielder who made his international debut for Italy on October 15, 2019, was forced to join the Premier League side, he has settled in very well so far.

Since he arrived at the club, Sandro Tonali has played ten times in all competitions for Newcastle United and has recorded a goal.

Unfortunately, the youngster and other Italian footballers are under investigation for breaching betting rules which include betting on football games they are involved in.

Sandro Tonali is said to be cooperating with the Italian FA and Turin prosecutors who are behind the case. He has reportedly decided to self-report.

Amid that, his agent issued a statement in which he hoped that “this gambling addiction issue will help to save Sandro’s life as well as many other young guys affected by the same problem”.

He added that “Sandro understood that he has to focus on this issue and face gambling addiction with a strong, determined approach.”

The football agent continued: “Sandro suffers from gambling addiction. He’s fighting to avoid that and I’m sure he will win this difficult game.

“He’s sad, still in shock.

“I’d like to thank Newcastle United as they’re supporting Sandro. He’s training, he could feature on Saturday”.

As mentioned above, Sandro Tonali could be in action for Newcastle United when Crystal Palace visit St. James’ Park for a Premier League game on Saturday, October 21.
