According to Football Insider, English Premier League side, Manchester City has stopped midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, from departing the club at the end of the summer transfer window.

Naija News understands that Phillips has endured limited playing time of only 760 minutes since his £45 million transfer from Leeds United last year to join Pep Guardiola’s team.

Phillips was rarely utilized during the previous season, as he found himself lower in the hierarchy of his position, trailing behind players such as Rodri and John Stones.

Despite the events, the Citizens has reportedly denied the 27-year-old permission to leave the club.

Naija News understands that Manchester City enjoyed an unprecedented amount of success in the 2022-2023 season.

Under Guardiola, Man City claimed a first UEFA Champions League crown as they won the treble, including the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Their squad underwent a couple of changes the following summer, particularly in midfield, with several key players leaving the club.

The likes of captain Ilkay Gundogan left the club free after he decided to join Spanish giants, Barcelona. The club also almost lost a second midfielder Phillips as the Englishman was reportedly targeted by several Premier League sides.

But a move away from Etihad did not materialize for Phillips.
