Luton Town Signs Andros Townsend

Former Everton winger, Andros Townsend has signed a contract with newly promoted Premier League club, Luton Town.

The contract is expected to keep Andros Townsend at the struggling club until the eve of the winter transfer window in January. This means that the deal will expire on December 31, 2023.

Recall that the 32-year-old English winger left Everton when his contract expired at the end of last season. Since then, the former Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur winger has remained without a club.

Townsend was very close to joining Burnley during the summer transfer window but the club halted the process at the last minute. They decided to back out of the deal because they didn’t want to impede the development of their younger players.

Townsend played 13 times for the Three Lions of England and he played his last game for the country in 2016.

He is now saddled with the responsibility of helping Luton Town in the Premier League for the next couple of months. The newly promoted side are ranked 17th in the league after recording just a win in eight games.

After sealing his short-term move to Luton Town, Andros Townsend said, “I never thought I’d pull on the Luton shirt, so it’s a huge honour to play again in the Premier League.

“I’ve seen where I can help this team and on the flipside, the manager has seen where I can help – whether that’s on the pitch, in the dressing room, or on the training field – with my enthusiasm and experience.”

On how he felt when his planned move to Burnley collapsed, Townsend said, “If I was bad and knew I wasn’t going to get a contract I could prepare myself. But to be looking at houses, looking at schools, talking about squad numbers, and then to be told the contract is no longer on offer, rocked my world.

“I argued my point, put my case forward. That I offer something different, that I’m comfortable being a squad player and good around the squad even when not playing.”
