The reigning Italian Serie A champions, Napoli, officially approached former Juventus Coach Antonio Conte earlier today, October 11.

Napoli were considering sacking their current coach, Rudi Garcia and replacing him with Antonio Conte who has been without a job since he left Tottenham Hotspur last season.

Initially, Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that Napoli and Antonio Conte would meet today, October 11, for direct talks “to understand if he can be the right man to replace Rudi Garcia”.

Then, the transfer expert confirmed that there was no final decision made after their first round of discussions “as there are many crucial points to discuss before advancing with Conte.”

However, hours later, the transfer expert, tweeted that “Antonio Conte had a long, direct talk with Napoli today. Discussions were not positive as the Italian coach decided to keep waiting for a new opportunity.”

He added that “Napoli president De Laurentiis spoke directly to Conte but no agreement. Antonio prefers to wait before accepting a new job.”

Napoli had no choice but to start searching for Rudi Garcia’s replacement after the French tactician led the Serie A champions to two league defeats, two draws, and just four wins in 8 league games. This performance has left them in the 5th spot on the league table with 14 points on the league table, 7 points away from first-placed AC Milan.

Aside from struggling in the Serie A, they are not having it so rosy in the Champions League as they have recorded one win and one defeat in the group stage which left them in second place on equal points with third-placed Braga.

Rudi Garcia is also struggling to manage his team properly as he recently had an open fallout with the club’s talisman, Victor Osimhen.
