Manchester United’s former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has lost his wife, Lady Cathy Ferguson to death, the family confirmed earlier today, October 6, 2023.

Sir Alex Ferguson who is currently 81-year-old lost Lady Cathy who was 84 years old on Thursday, October 5. Her cause of death has not been disclosed.

A statement from the Ferguson Family read: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing yesterday of Lady Cathy Ferguson.

“The family asks for privacy at this time.”

Ferguson and Cathy got wedded in 1966 and they didn’t have a break until her demise in October 2023 which means they were married for 57 years.

They both met in 1964 when they were working in a typewriter factory where they started their relationship.

Before her demise, Cathy had three children with the veteran Scottish tactician named Darren Ferguson, Mark Ferguson, and Jason Ferguson. Their first son, Darren, is currently the coach of Peterborough FC, a third-tier club in the United Kingdom.

Sir Alex managed Manchester United for 27 of their married years, and it is believed that Cathy was a major factor in his decision to delay his retirement from coaching until 2013.

As a show of respect, flags at Old Trafford have been lowered to half-mast, and both the men’s and women’s teams will wear black armbands for this weekend’s games.

Manchester United said in a statement: “Everyone at Manchester United sends our heartfelt condolences to Sir Alex Ferguson and his family on the passing of Lady Cathy, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a tower of strength for Sir Alex throughout his career.”
