Manchester City’s prolific striker, Erling Haaland is dreaming of breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal-scorer record within the next four seasons.

Erling Haaland joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund for just £56 million in the summer of 2022. Despite the notion that the Premier League is a difficult league to adapt to, Haaland had the best season of his career in his debut season at City.

The 23-year-old Norwegian striker scored 36 Premier League goals to become the first player to score as high as that in a single Premier League season.

Haaland scored a total of 52 goals in all competitions as he helped Manchester City to win their first UEFA Champions League title, win the Premier League for the fifth time under coach Pep Guardiola, and win the FA Cup in the same season.

After shattering and setting a new single-season Premier League highest goalscorer record which was formerly held by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, Haaland is looking at doing something bigger.

The Norwegian striker is hoping to break the all-time Premier League goalscorer record which is 260 goals. Since 2006 when the retired English forward set the record, only Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur has come very close to breaking it.

Unfortunately, the 30-year-old England international left Spurs for Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window after scoring 213 goals to become the second all-time highest goalscorer in the Premier League.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Erling Haaland contemplated breaking the record before the end of his current contract with City.

He said, “How long is my contract? Three years and 10 months [left]? So, there is still time to do it, no?”

“That’s something you can’t think of. You have to think of the next game, the season, and then these things come after a while.

“But if I will still be 15 years longer in England then why not? We will see.”

So far this season, Erling Haaland who is a major contender for the 2023 Ballon d’Or, has scored 8 goals and provided 1 assist in 7 league games. He needs to score 57 goals per season from this season to be able to break the Premier League’s all-time highest goalscorer record within four seasons.
