Jurgen Klopp Gives Excuses After Liverpool Loss To Brentford

The manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has called on the league’s football authority to replay the league game between the club and Tottenham Hotspur over a VAR error.

Recall that last Saturday, September 30, Luis Diaz’s goal was incorrectly disallowed for offside by the video assistance referee in the Premier League match against Tottenham.

Joel Matip’s own goal in the 96th minute landed Liverpool a 2-1 defeat, which was their first of the season.

After the game, the Premier League body, PGMOL, admitted that Luis Diaz’s goal was incorrectly disallowed and apologized for the error.

The acknowledgment of the error forced Liverpool to request the audio recordings of the conversation between the VAR officials that led to the cancellation of the goal which the Premier League granted on Tuesday.

In the released audio recordings, VAR Darren England could be heard saying the check was “perfect” before using the “F” word after realizing a mistake was made.

Ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League game against Union Saint-Gilloise at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jurgen Klopp said, “Something like this never happened, so that is why I think a replay is the right thing to do.”

When asked whether Liverpool had requested a replay, Klopp responded: “At this stage, we are still going through the information we have.”

On the released audio recordings, Jurgen Klopp added: “The audio didn’t change it at all. It is an obvious mistake. There should be solutions for that. The outcome should be a replay. But it probably won’t happen.

“The argument against that would be it opens the gates. It is unprecedented. I’m used to wrong and difficult decisions, but something like this never happened.”
