What Ahmed Musa Did For Gold Medallist Bassey Etim Spotted Filing Potholes

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has donated N500,000 to gold medalist, Bassey Etim spotted filling potholes in Ajah, Lagos State.

According to Nigerian journalist, Seun Oloketuyi, the Nigerian captain donated the sum after a viral video captured Etim in an all-black attire, holding a shovel after using a stone to block a pothole.

He was heard saying in the video, “My name is Bassey Etim, aka Iron Bar. I am from Cross Rivers State, I was born in 1965. When I was in my youth, I was getting into trouble and I decided to transfer the negative energy to positive energy.

“So, I joined weightlifting. My first competition was in the 1981 National World Festival in which I won gold for Lagos State.”

Etim, won a gold medal at the 1983 Commonwealth Games in Malta. He, however, suffered an injury while representing Nigeria at the 1984 Olympic Games.

Etim, 56, revealed that he spent his life savings on his treatment, claiming he was abandoned by Nigeria.

He said: “I sustained an injury, and when I came back, Nigeria refused to take care of my injury, so I had to use my life savings to go back to America in September 1985 to take care of the injury.

“But I still come out to volunteer myself to give back to my country. People are saying, ‘Why should you do that? They didn’t take care of you.’”

He said he had been doing voluntary road works for seven years.
