Liverpool have confirmed that they will contest the red card Curtis Jones received in their controversial 2-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

On the controversial game on Saturday, September 30, Curtis Jones, was red-carded for fouling Yves Bissouma in the 26th minute following a video assistance referee (VAR) intervention.

Referee Simon Hooper first issued a yellow card to Jones for the challenge but changed his mind after consulting the pitchside monitor.

The 22-year-old midfielder would miss three games if the red card is not overturned.

If the decision is maintained, he will miss Liverpool’s Premier League games against Brighton, Everton, and Nottingham Forest.

Curtis Jones has played five times for Liverpool in the Premier League so far this season and the red card slammed on him last weekend was his first this season.

The England youth international is a product of the Liverpool football system. He gained promotion to the club’s senior team on July 1, 2020. Since then, he has scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists in 68 games in all competitions.

Curtis Jones last renewed his contract with Liverpool on November 17, 2022, and the contract is expected to expire on June 30, 2027.

Jones’ red card is not the only aspect of the game Liverpool are contending against. They released a statement recently to bash Premier League referees’ body after the body acknowledged that they made a mistake in ruling out Diaz’s goal in Spurs’ 2-1 win.
