PDP Reveals Next Plan On Kaduna Tribunal Judgment

The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the judgment of the governorship election petition tribunal.

Naija News had earlier reported that the tribunal affirmed the election of the state Governor, Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The three-man panel via Zoom, affirmed Sani’s victory on “technical grounds”.

In a two-against-one dissenting verdict, the panel ruled against PDP and its candidate, Isah Ashiru, for premature filing of the application for pre-hearing.

The tribunal led by Victor Oviawie said the petition was considered abandoned as argued by Uba’s lawyers.

The tribunal on the merit of the case ruled that if the petition had not been dismissed on technical grounds, it would have ordered a supplementary election in 22 polling units within 90 days.

The spokesperson of PDP in Kaduna, Alberah Catoh in a statement on Friday, said the party will seek redress at the court of appeal.

Catoh said a review of the verdict by the party’s lawyer indicated that the judgment did not meet the requirements of substantive justice.

He further argued that the verdict was not in alignment with extant electoral laws, guidelines and regulations.

Catoh said, “The party has accordingly directed its lawyers to appeal the judgment at the court of appeal, Abuja, within the timeframe specified by law.”

He charged supporters of PDP in the state to be calm and of good cheer, in the belief that though the walk to justice is slow, they would reach their destination.
