Over the years, Nigerian footballers have proven to be unstoppable in terms of scoring goals for their club sides across the world.

In line with that, Naija News has identified 13 top Nigerian footballers who have scored at least 100 club career goals in history.

Some of these 13 Nigerian footballers have retired from the beautiful game, while a couple of others are still active in the game.

Below are the top 13 Nigerian footballers who have scored at least 100 club career goals

1. Rashidi Yekini

Late Rashidi Yekini is the first Nigerian footballer in recorded history to score at least 100 club career goals before he retired from the game.

Yekini retired from football in 2005 after scoring 483 club goals in 673 games. He scored these goals while playing for UNTL Kaduna (12), Shooting Stars (45), Abiola Babes (80), Julius Berger (10), Gateway (7), Vitória de Setúbal in Portugal (91 goals in just 114 appearances), and Ivory Coast’s Africa Sports’ (217 goals in 243 games).

2. Cyriel Dessers

Cyriel Dessers who has played for the Super Eagles of Nigeria once in his career reached a landmark of 100 club career goals on May 8, 2022. The Rangers new signing currently has 113 club career goals.

3. Odion Ighalo

Odion Ighalo has played for 12 different clubs in his football career and has scored a total of 219 goals for them which makes him one of the 13 Nigerian footballers to record at least 100 club career goals in history.

4. Asisat Oshoala

Asisat Oshoala who currently plays for FC Barcelona women’s team is the only woman on this list. The five-time Africa Women’s Footballer of the Year winner has scored 134 club goals so far in her career.

5. Obafemi Martins

Obafemi Martins retired from professional football in 2021 after scoring a club career 183 goals in 488 appearances which makes him one of the Nigerian footballers to hit the 100 goals milestone in the beautiful game.

6. Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Yakubu Aiyegbeni might be one of the most criticized Nigerian footballers in history, especially after missing an open net goal at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he is indeed, one of the greatest strikers from Nigeria. Before he retired from professional football, Aiyegbeni scored a club career 113 goals.

7. Jonathan Akpoborie

Jonathan Akpoborie is famous in the game thanks to his illustrious spell in the German Bundesliga. Before he retired from professional football, the former VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg striker scored 161 club goals in 372 games.

8. Osaze Odemwingie

Osaze Odemwingie was one of the country’s brightest stars in the game during his active days. He retired from professional football after scoring 133 club career goals.

9. Ikechukwu Uche

Despite battling with injury issues in his football career, Ikechukwu Uche was able to score 121 club career goals before he bowed out of the game.

10. Kanu Nwankwo

Kanu Nwankwo who is one of the most decorated footballers in Africa and was part of the 2003-2004 Arsenal ‘invincibles’ squad scored 109 club career goals. He is currently the chairman of Enyimba Football Club of Aba.

11. Victor Ikpeba

Victor Ikpeba who is one of the few Nigerian footballers to win the prestigious CAF African Footballer of the Year (1997), retired from professional football after scoring 114 club goals in 367 club appearances.

12. John Utaka

John Utaka managed to score 114 goals in 510 club appearances before he retired from the game. One of his biggest moments in the game was helping Portsmouth to win the 2008 FA Cup.

13. Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen is the latest addition to the list of Nigerian footballers who have scored at least 100 club career goals.

Osimhen achieved this feat when he scored the first goal in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Sassuolo on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
