Super Falcons Bonuses: House Of Reps Accuses NFF President Of ‘Frustrating’ Investigation

Blessing Onu, head of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on the unpaid allowances of the Super Falcons, has accused NFF president, Ibrahim Gusau of ‘frustrating’ the ongoing investigation into the team’s unpaid entitlements.

Onu, who represents Otukpo/Ohimini federal constituency, revealed that the NFF president had failed to appear before the ad hoc committee after a series of invitations in his attempt to halt the investigation.

The House of Representatives member said, “It’s obvious that the NFF president is frustrating this ad hoc committee from investigating the allegations leveled against it.”

Onu stated this on Thursday, August 24, when the NFF president finally appeared before the committee in Abuja.

During the hearing, the committee asked the NFF president to provide the receipts and breakdown of the alleged allowances paid to the Super Falcons for their participation in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

She directed the football body to make the information available to the committee on or before August 30, 2023.

In his response, Gusau insisted that the NFF can’t use the $960,000 the world football governing body, FIFA, made available for each federation ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup to pay for “outstanding allowances for the 2019 Women’s World Cup”.

He said the money was pre-tournament funding FIFA made available for the federations to help them prepare their teams for the just concluded Women’s World Cup.

While acknowledging that the NFF gets regular financial support from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football, he noted that the Federal Government did not pay the NFF’s executives and staff.
