Grammy Award-winning Afrofusion singer, Burna Boy has said he doesn’t like to feel boxed, the reason he does not believe in music genres.

The Grammy Award winner said this in an attempt to explain Afrofusion during an interview with Complex published on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old said, “Why I created Afrofusion is because I didn’t want to be boxed into any Afrobeats or boxed into Hip-Hop or boxed into anything because I don’t believe in genres. So for someone who doesn’t believe in genres, where are you going to keep him?”

He has been nominated six times for the Grammy Awards, winning one in 2021 for Best Global Music Album with his project Twice As Tall.

Burna Boy recently stated that Afrobeats has no substance, getting mixed reactions from fans and other musicians.

The ‘Last Last’ crooner made this known during a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in New York where he described Afrobeats as basically ‘nothing’ with no substance.

He said: “Afrobeats as people call it is mostly about nothing, literally nothing. There’s no substance to it. Nobody is talking about anything. It’s just a great time, it’s an amazing time.”
