APC Reacts As Tribunal Fixes Date For Presidential Election Petition Judgement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from the new caucus set up within the party by the immediate past Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola.

The National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru in his reaction, warned people from joining the caucus which he said is strange to the party structure.

He also described Aregbesola as part of “people who we cannot identify as still members of our party.”

It would be recalled that Aregbesola on Tuesday, launched a new group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) known as the ‘Omoluabi’ caucus.

The former Governor of Osun State however said the new caucus is not a faction but a coming together of like-minded persons within the party in Osun State.

Members of the caucus were drawn from each ward of the 332 wards in the state and were represented by five members each from each of the local government areas in the state.

But reacting to the development. Basiru told The Nation in a phone chat that such group was a contraption to the constitution of APC.

He said: “The APC constitution does not recognize caucus as an organ or structure of the party.

“There is freedom of association under the Nigerian constitution. So, anyone is entitled to form an association, but as far as APC is concerned, we do not recognize the kind of contraption the former minister is putting together. At the best is a political club of his fancy and has no basis in the structure and organization of the APC.”

The APC scribe further warned members of the party against joining the caucus.

“Genuine APC members should be wary of the antics of those people who we cannot identify as still members of our party,” Basiru added.
