Manchester City have accepted an undisclosed offer from Al-Nassr for Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte.

Aymeric Laporte, 29, made 43 starts in the 2021–2022 season; unfortunately, he lost his spot to Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake in Manchester City’s treble-winning 2022-2023 season.

To make matters worst for the Spanish defender in the 2023-2024 season, Pep Guardiola has brought in Josko Gvardiol, a 21-year-old defender from Croatia.

Manchester City paid German Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig, £77 million, to complete the deal, which means Laporte might spend the entire season on the bench if he doesn’t leave this summer.

In the quest to play more regularly while he continues to earn great wages, Laporte might join players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, and Alex Telles on the Al-Nassr roster this summer.

In January 2018, City paid £57 million to sign Laporte from Athletic Bilbao, a then-club record transfer fee. Later, in 2021, Laporte switched his allegiance from France to Spain.

Laporte’s ability to build attack from defense helped City to win the Premier League title five times in the last six seasons.

He made 51 appearances in 2018–2019 season and 44 in 2021–2022 season before the arrival of Ake and Akanji, which diminished both his influence and playing time at the club.

Since 2018, Laporte has played a total of 180 times and scored 12 goals for Manchester City. While for Spain’s national team, he has played 22 times and helped the country to win the Uefa Nations League in June 2023.
