Deontay Wilder’s Reaction To Anthony Joshua’s Win Over Helenius

Deontay Wilder’s coach Malik Scott has revealed that his client was happy that British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua knocked out Finn heavyweight boxer Robert Helenius.

In the late hours of Saturday, Anthony Joshua and Robert Helenius, Dillian Whyte’s last-minute replacement, faced each other at the O2 Arena.

Even though Helenius accepted the offer for the fight a week before kick-off, the 39-year-old heavyweight fighter gave a good account of himself until Joshua got out of his shell to knock the Finn out in the 7th round.

Though most boxing pundits argue that Joshua wasn’t aggressive in the bout until he noticed Helenius was tired before he released himself, coach Scott said Wilder was excited about the outcome of the bout.

“He [Wilder] was like, ‘Yeah, we needed that'”, Scott told October Red on YouTube.

“We both said the same thing, because at first it looked like it was gonna go the distance, so when the knockout came, I called him on FaceTime. He was like, ‘Phew, I’m glad he got that. We needed it done just like that.’

“We were both satisfied. The fight is bigger than it was, because of the knockout. Shoutout to AJ for getting the job done.”

Now that Anthony Joshua has recorded his second victory in 2023, his next fight is expected to be against the American highly dreaded Deontay Wilder.

There are reports that both the representatives of Wilder and Anthony Joshua are in intense negotiations for the fight to take place in Saudi Arabia in January 2024.

Most pundits believe that Wilder who knocked out Robert Helenius in one round ten months ago would knockout AJ, but the fact that the Nigerian-British boxer has recorded two victories in two successive bouts is seen as a good sign for a balanced game in January.
