EPL: Reece James Makes Promises After Emerging Chelsea’s New Captain

English professional footballer, Reece James, has been named as Chelsea‘s new captain.

The English Premier League (EPL) announced this on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

Naija News reports that the England defender replaces Cesar Azpilicueta, who left Stamford Bridge this summer to join Atletico Madrid.

Reacting to the development in a post via his Instagram account on Wednesday, James made three big promises to the Premier League club.

The 23-year-old player promised to do everything he can to help lead Chelsea in the right direction, back to where they belong and win titles.

He wrote, “Captain of Chelsea. A real honour and a proud moment for me and my family.

“This club is all I’ve known for the past 17 years. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who has helped me on the journey to achieve this.

“The role is new to me, but I’ll do everything I can to help lead our club in the right direction. Back to where we belong. Winning titles. See you at the Bridge on Sunday.”
