Premier League reigning champions Manchester City and German Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig have reached an agreement over the future of Josko Gvardiol.

Based on the agreement, Josko Gvardiol is expected to move to Manchester City this August for a transfer fee worth £77 million after a series of rejected bids.

The Croatian defender is expected to fly to the city of Manchester for his medical examination in the coming days as Manchester City are hoping to complete the move before they face Arsenal in the Community Shield on August 6.

Interestingly, the deal between Manchester City and Leipzig for the 21-year-old Croatia international came with no add-ons.

Since his transfer from Dynamo Zagreb to Leipzig in 2021, Josko Gvardiol has played 87 times for the German Bundesliga side.

Gvardiol has made 21 appearances for Croatia and scored twice. He has helped Croatia to finish second to Spain in the Nations League this season and third at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He also won back-to-back titles with Zagreb, ending his tenure there with a league and cup double before deciding to join the Bundesliga club.

Leipzig announced last week that they would not sell him for less than £86 million, making the transaction unlikely to go through. But City were able to negotiate a lesser deal.

Josko Gvardiol is expected to partner Ruben Dias in City’s defense from next season casting doubts on the future of Aymeric Laporte who spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich.

Following the £25 million acquisition of fellow Croatian Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea in June, Gvardiol is City’s second significant summer signing so far.
