Premier League club, Aston Villa has completed the signing of Spanish center-back Pau Torres from La Liga club Villarreal for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Pau Torres and the current manager of Aston Villa, Unai Emery, enjoyed a very cordial working relationship at Villarreal from 2020 to 2023.

The defender, a product of Villarreal’s football academy, was crucial to Villarreal’s fifth-place finish in the 2022-2023 Spanish La Liga season.

The Spain international made 173 appearances at the Spanish La Liga club in which he scored 12 goals in all competitions.

When he made his Villarreal debut in 2016, he became the first player from Valencian town to play for the Spanish club in 13 years.

In the 2021 Europa League final, Torres helped Emery’s squad defeat Manchester United on penalties. Due to his leadership skill, Torres quickly rose to the position of team captain under coach Emery.

After midfielder Youri Tielemans, who joined the club on a free transfer from relegated Leicester City, Pau Torres is Aston Villa’s second signing of the summer transfer window.

Villa qualified for the 2023-2024 Europa Conference League campaign as a result of their seventh-place finish in the 2022-2023 Premier League season.

Since Pau Torres made his international debut in 2019, he has made 23 appearances for Spain. He competed in the Euro 2020 and the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
