Arsenal have extended the contract of their French defender William Saliba four years after joining the club from Saint-Étienne in 2019.

William Saliba who was one of the most important members of Arsenal’s defense in the 2022-2023 season signed a four-year contract extension with the Gunners which means that he would stay at the Emirates until June 30, 2027.

Recall that coach Mikel Arteta signed the 22-year-old Frenchman after paying Saint-Étienne a transfer fee worth £27 million four years ago.

After extending his contract with Arsenal on Friday, June 7, 2023, William Saliba said, “I was born in north Paris, but became a man in north London.

“I know it must have been strange for you. I show up, a kid you have never heard of, and then keep going away to different clubs [on loan] before you get to see me play.

“But I know now this was the best plan for me, and last summer when I came back to the club and became a pivotal part of the team words cannot describe how I feel here, how you [fans] make me feel.

“Having the confidence of the boss and the staff, and then having your love and support made me feel 10 feet tall – so thank you Gooners, this if for you. We are together and let’s keep moving. ”

William Saliba is the fourth player that got a contract extension from Arsenal this summer after Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Aaron Ramsdale.

Aside from extending the contracts of important players at the club, Arsenal have been very busy in the transfer window as they are preparing to contend with Manchester City in the coming 2023-2024 season after finishing second behind City last season.
