PDP Fixes Date To Hold NEC, BoT, National Caucus Meetings

The highest decision-making body of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Executive Council (NEC), is expected to convene soon over the suspension of the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu.

Recall that the Igorov ward executive committee in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State had on Sunday suspended Ayu for alleged anti-party activities and for failing to pay his membership dues.

Following the suspension, the Benue State High Court restrained Ayu from parading himself as the chairman of the party following a suit filed by a former aide to Governor Samuel Ortom, Conrad Utaan.

The development saw Ayu step aside pending the ruling of the court. In compliance with the court ruling, the PDP appointed the Deputy National Chairman, (North), Umar Damagum as the acting national chairman.

In a chat with the Punch, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the NEC will meet as soon as it becomes feasible to deliberate on issues thrown up by Ayu’s suspension.

Abdullahi, however, said the party’s National Working Committee has not fixed a date for the NEC meeting yet.

He said, β€œAn NEC meeting will be held as soon as it becomes feasible. It is in the works, but we have not fixed a date for it yet.”
