Troost-Ekong Says Osimhen Is Best Striker Worldwide

The vice-captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, William Troost-Ekong has described his countryman and Napoli talisman, Victor Osimhen, as the finest striker in the world.

Osimhen has been enjoying the best form of his football career at Napoli, especially in the 2022-2023 season. So far this season, the 24-year-old Nigerian forward has scored 19 goals and provided 5 assists in just 22 Serie A appearances.

His performance in the league has helped Napoli to sit at the top of the league table with 68 points in 26 games, 18 points above second-placed Inter Milan. He is also the highest goalscorer in the league this season.

Osimhen, 24, won the league’s best player of the month award for January thanks to his consistent play, and the Serie A Goal of The Month Award the same month for his incredible strike against Roma.

In an interview with Sports Italia, Troost-Ekong, who currently plays for Italian Serie A side, Salernitana, noted that Osimhen overcame difficult moments to become the best striker in the world.

“Osimhen is probably the best striker in the world right now. I am happy for him because he has overcome difficult moments,” he said.

“It’s a very important year for him, he can win the Scudetto, and then he’ll be able to think about the future.”

Troost-Ekong joined Salernitana on loan from Watford on January 24, 2023. Since then, the Nigerian center-back has made just three appearances for the Italian side.

The 29-year-old Nigeria international is expected to return to Watford at the end of the 2022-2023 season as he still has a contract with the English club which will expire on June 30, 2025.
