Keyamo Defends Claim That Appointment Of Ministers Of State Is Unconstitutional

The Chief Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC), Festus Keyamo (SAN), has assured Nigerians that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will unite all Nigerians through a government of national unity.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Festus Keyamo (SAN), Minister of State for Labour and Employment, said Tinubu as a unifier will bring everybody on board, including his co-contestants in the presidential election, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

He, however, said Tinubu would not ask for any corruption cases against any individual to be withdrawn simply because they joined his party or government.

The lawyer said: “You don’t even have to call on Asiwaju Tinubu to bring the country together. When you talk of the real unifier, he is the one. You can see how he unified the party and steered it towards victory. So, it is not what anyone will have to call Asiwaju to do.

“By nature, Asiwaju likes bringing everybody together, and that is what I expect to happen when his government comes on board. We are all looking forward to that.”

Atiku’s Case

Keyamo also stated that he would not withdraw the suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/84/2023) he instituted against Atiku Abubakar over allegations bordering on money laundering.

He said, “My case against Atiku has nothing to do with unity or no unity. Government of national unity does not mean we should condone corruption. Buhari has set a very high standards in that aspect. We will not go back to that era where because you are a party member, corruption cases against you will be withdrawn.

“I don’t expect Asiwaju Tinubu’s administration to go in that direction. I expect the president-elect to be very, very firm on the issue of anti-corruption. Asiwaju has a track record of probity when he was governor of Lagos State. That was manifest in how he cleaned up the Lagos State civil service and other agencies. I expect him to replicate that at the federal level.

“Fight against corruption will be a top priority in the Tinubu administration. He has given us assurance on that and I believe that”.
