New Naira Crisis: Journalist Slumps, Dies While Trekking To Radio Station

A popular presenter with Ibadan-based private radio station, Fresh FM, popularly known as Baba Bimtinlaye or Baba Bimtin has died after he slumped on his way to radio station for his program on Saturday morning.

His death was announced during a radio program by the ace radio twins, Komolafe Olaiya and Olalomi Amole, Oyin Ado.

Baba Bimtin reportedly died while trekking from Amuloko to Fresh FM at  Challenge, with the hope of getting Point of Sale, POS agent to get cash for his transportation.

In an audio played on the radio, a man said they found him slumped on his way to the office and rushed him to the University Colleage Hospital, UCH, but died on getting to the hospital.

Meanwhile, another pregnant woman was confirmed dead in Kaduna, some couple of days ago on account of scarcity of the new Naira notes in banks.

Naija News gathered that the couple who lived in Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State, could not pay the required hospital deposit because they could not access cash over the bank’s counter.

John Auta and his pregnant was said to have been rejected by the hospital after he could not make the payment due to the scarcity of the Naira notes.

Speaking about his wife’s death Auta told Tribune that, “I ran to my bank to withdraw money but was told no money. I went back looking for POS operators, but I could not find any because, since the issue of new currency began, most POS operator locked up their business centre.”
