INEC Removes Doguwa’s Name From Reps-Elect List

The name of the embattled leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa has been removed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from the list of election winners.

INEC had declared Doguwa as the winner of the February 25 election in the Doguwa/Tudunwada constituency.

The returning officer, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai had earlier announced that Doguwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 39,732 votes to defeat the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Yushau Salisu Abdullahi who polled 34,798 votes.

However, in the newly released list of members elected, Doguwa’s name was not included.

INEC disclosed that the declaration of Doguwa as the winner was made under duress.

Recall after the election, Doguwa was arrested by the police for his alleged role in the killings of several persons and the burning of the secretariat of the NNPP.

The leader of the House of Representatives, however, has denied the allegation levelled against him.

Police claimed that at least three persons were killed while the campaign secretariat of the NNPP in Tudunwada was set ablaze with two persons burnt to death.

Doguwa was thereafter taken before a magistrate’s court on the charges of murder, arson and unlawful possession of firearms, and was subsequently remanded in prison.

A Federal High Court in Kano on Monday, however, admitted Doguwa to N500 million bail but barred him from his constituency during the forthcoming gubernatorial and state assembly elections.
