#NigeriaDecides: Nathasa Akpoti Loses Kogi Central Senate Seat
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere of the All Progressive Congress (APC)as the winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial election.
This means the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, lost her bid to represent the senatorial district in the National Assembly.
Announcing the result on Tuesday, in the Okene area of the state, INEC returning officer for Kogi central senatorial district, Rotimi Ajayi, said Sadiku-Ohere garnered 52,132 votes to beat Akpoti-Uduaghan, who had 51,763 votes.
Ajayi said Sadiku-Ohere of the APC having scored the highest votes in the election for the Kogi central senatorial seat is hereby declared winner, and is therefore returned elected.
Recall that Akpoti-Uduaghan had in a statement accused the Kogi government of trying to disenfranchise voters in the state.
She alleged that the government carried out a road excavation around Ihima, Okehi LGA of the state to influence voters’ turnout for the just-concluded presidential and national assembly elections.
But the Governor Yahaha Bello-led government dismissed the claim and said the excavation was a security measure.
