The former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu, has been declared the winner of the Abia North Senatorial district election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for Abia-North, Chinedu Nnamdi, made this known on Monday morning.

He said Uzor-Kalu, the incumbent Abia North Senator and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress  (APC), polled a total of 30,805 votes to defeat his closet rival, Nnamdi Iroh of the Labour Party, who polled 25,540 votes.

Nnamdi added that Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) got 15, 175 votes to come third.

The INEC REC, therefore, declared Kalu as the winner having polled the highest number of valid votes cast.

Ex-Nasarawa Governor, Al-Makura Loses Bid To Return To Senate

A former Governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has lost his re-election bid to represent Nasarawa South in the National Assembly.

The incumbent Nasarawa South Senator was defeated by his opponent, Mohammed Ogishi-Onawo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Declaring the result on Monday in Lafia, the state capital, Professor Ahmed Ashiku, the Returning Officer, said Ogoshi Onawo scored 93,064 votes to defeat Al-Makura, who polled a total vote of 76,813.

Ashiku, while declaring that Onawo, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, was returned elected.
