NFF Pays Tribute To Christian Atsu

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has joined mourners across the world to pay tribute to former Chelsea and Newcastle United player, Christian Atsu.

Christian Atsu, 31, was confirmed dead on Saturday, February 18, 2023, after over eleven days after it was confirmed that he was buried in rubble in Turkey.

Atsu who was contracted to Turkish Super Lig outfit Hatayspor since September 2022, was reportedly in a high-rise building when an earthquake struck southern Turkey and collapsed the building on him earlier this month.

Days after he was trapped in the rubble, it was reported that he has been found and taken to the hospital for treatment. On the contrary, his management and family insisted that the whereabouts of the footballer were not known.

After a series of speculations, his body was found trapped in the rubble and was pronounced dead on Saturday.

After the demise of Ghana international, the NFF took to its verified Instagram page to send its condolences.

The NFF wrote, “We are sending our deepest condolences to the family of Ghanaian international Christian Atsu, his friends, and our brothers the Ghana FA. May his soul rest in peace.”

Also, Chelsea’s legendary retired defender, John Terry took to his social media page to send his condolences.

Retired England international shared the picture of Christian Atsu via Twitter which he captioned: “RIP my friend”.

Also, Chelsea wrote, “Everyone at Chelsea Football Club is devastated to learn of the tragic passing of our former player, Christian Atsu. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.”

While Newcastle United wrote: “A talented player and a special person, he will always be fondly remembered by our players, staff, and supporters.”
