The manager of Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, asserted that Brentford’s equalizer in the 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium should have been cancelled for offside.

In the second half of the Premier League game, coach Mike Arteta and his boys took the lead thanks to Leandro Trossard’s first club goal.

However, the score was level as Ivan Toney connected on a close-range header from Christian Norgaard to get his name on the score sheet in the 74th minute.

Toney’s celebration was halted as the VAR Carried out a thorough check on the buildup to the goal.

Norgaard appeared to be in an offside position before the 74th-minute goal, and Ethan Pinnock might have obstructed Gabriel Magalhaes while also being in an offside position.

Arteta felt let down because the equalizer was still awarded despite a lengthy VAR check.

“I just looked back and it is offside, yes,” coach Mikel Arteta said after the game.

“The action when you get blocked when you are offside – you cannot block if you are offside.

“You have to apply certain principles in defending and you do that by sticking to the rules. Suddenly you change the rules and then you have to change your principles.

“So tell us before, so then you don’t hide the line that high, because you’re always going to have an advantage if you get blocked.”

Due to the 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Brentford, the Gunners are now 6 points above second-placed Manchester City with an equal number of games. City is expected to reduce the gap when they take on Aston Villa on Sunday.

On Wednesday, City and Arsenal will clash for what could be a game-changer in the title race.
