Pep Guardiola Gives Up On Premier League After Losing To United

After their loss at Manchester United, Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City “cannot” win the Premier League title this season.

With 60 minutes remaining in the 189th Manchester derby, City took the lead thanks to a header from second-half substitute Jack Grealish and were poised to momentarily cut the gap on Arsenal.

However, in just four minutes, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored twice to cap a historic comeback for United and hand City their first Premier League loss in two months.

It is also City’s second straight loss in four days after they were shockingly eliminated by Southampton from the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The outcome puts the defending champions behind Arsenal by five points, a gap that might grow if Arsenal defeat Spurs in the North London derby on Sunday.

United, however, trail their regional rivals in third place by one point after their 2-1 win over City.

After the game was over, a clearly irritated Guardiola appeared to admit his team couldn’t win the league title this year.

“I don’t care about the Premier League and the Carabao Cup, we cannot win,” he told Des Kelly on BT Sport.

“We won a lot, so it’s not a problem.”

Pep Guardiola added: “In general I have no regrets. I don’t care if we don’t win the Carabao Cup or the Premier League, we’ll try.

“I don’t care when a team performs how we play. It was quite similar to the many, many years we’ve been here.

“There are plenty of points to play for and we have to play there. In every game, we have to perform. We always play in these sort of games and others we struggle a little bit.”
