In a gripping Manchester derby, Manchester United pulled off a spectacular late comeback to defeat Manchester City courtesy of strikes from Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.

After substitute Jack Grealish headed City ahead from Kevin de Bruyne’s cross on the hour mark, it appeared that they were getting closer to Premier League leaders Arsenal. However, United stunned their supporters with a stunning comeback.

With 12 minutes left, Erik ten Hag’s team controversially equalized when Bruno Fernandes scored despite Marcus Rashford being in an offside position. The city’s protests that Rashford had interfered with the play were ignored even though the flag was raised.

Four minutes later, Rashford flicked in Alejandro Garnacho’s cross to pull United to a point closer to second-placed City, who are still five points behind Arsenal.

With the 2-1 victory over City, United now have just one loss in their last 19 games across all competitions and are right behind City in third place in the standings, which is hardly credible after that their first derby loss and a terrible start to the season that saw them lose at home to Brighton before being thoroughly outclassed at Brentford.

In a twist of things, United are now looking solid in the top four and may even be keeping an eye on the league’s leaders, Arsenal, who are six points ahead of them.
