President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed anger over the death of seven personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) killed during heavy crossfire with bandits on Monday.

Naija News recalls that seven NSCDC officers, five vigilantes, and six miners were killed by suspected bandits at the Kuriga mining site in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

It was gathered that among the murdered personnel include, an Assistant Superintendent of Corps II (ASCII), two Assistant Superintendents of Corps I (ASCI), three Inspectors of Corps (IC), and one other officer.

The president, in a statement by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Thursday, directed security operatives to ensure that the bandits are arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

Commending the officers for laying down their lives for the country, Buhari prayed that God will grant the bereaved the fortitude to bear the loss.

“The NSCDC personnel who braved all challenges to guard our nation and its people had made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, my thoughts are with the bereaved families and their compatriots in the service, May God grant them and the entire service the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Wike Threatens Rivers Politicians

Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, told some local government chairmen in his state on Thursday that they will be in trouble if they fail to deliver a certain percentage of votes for him in the 2023 general elections.

While addressing the Chairman of the Ahoada East Local government Area of the state, Hope Ikiriko, on Thursday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said he is expecting nothing less than 50% of the total votes from the LGA in the coming polls.

Wike, who said the council chairmen had received sufficient amount to complete projects in the areas, said the politicians would be in trouble if they performed below expectation at the polls.
