Edo Train Attack: Obaseki Must Give An Explanation – APC

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has blamed the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki for the recent train attack in the state.

The APC in a statement on Monday through its Publicity Secretary, Peter Igbinigbe said Obaseki is not handling the security of the state well.

The party added that as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Edo State, the Governor’s table is where the buck on such matters stops.

Igbinigbe alleged that Obaseki receives not less than N800m on a monthly basis as security vote and should be able to explain how such is spent and gunmen are still able to make daring attacks on innocent residents of the state.

The statement read partly, “It is saddening to experience this especially when we are still basking in the euphoria of the new year.

“However, this smack of the lack in the security apparatus in Edo State has been expected of the Chief Security Officer, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“We have demanded that the Governor should explain to Edo people what he does with the monthly humongous security vote he receives from the Federal Government.

“We are also not unaware that the Governor receives not less than N800m monthly to tackle insecurity in Edo State, monthly.”

It will be recalled that gunmen on Saturday evening, kidnapped some people at the Tom Ikimi Train Station in the Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.

The victims were waiting to board a train to Warri in Delta State when the assailants stormed the station shooting aimlessly.

The report said security operatives had been deployed to bushes around the area to rescue the victims and arrest the fleeing kidnappers.

While security operatives have rescued some of the victims already, the kidnappers are said to be demanding N20m for each of the victims left in their captivity.
