G5: Presidential Candidate Wike, Ikpeazu Are Working For Revealed

Fresh information has emerged claiming that the five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also known as G-5, might not be able to reveal the presidential candidate to support.

Naija News gathered that a source told Leadership that the aggrieved governors might not publicly name the presidential candidate to support as widely speculated.

Members of the G-5 include, Nyesom Wike (Rivers State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo State).

The source revealed that even as the group is set to meet in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital at the flag-off campaign rally of the re-election bid of one of its members, the Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde, the G5 might only give directions of where they are going.

They are expected to give a direction of where they will go but may not mention the name of the presidential candidate to avoid being accused of anti-party activities and to protect their different political interests,” the source stated.

The source also noted that the group might also use the chance to reinforce their position and demands over the party’s presidential ticket.

It was gathered that despite Ortom’s preference for Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his colleagues are yet to agree on a particular candidate.

However, Naija News learnt that the position of the group might provide an edge for the leadership of the party and its supporters.

This platform also understands that the G5’s decision to support another party was renewed by the political rivalry between Wike and his predecessor in office and former minister of transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, an APC chieftain in Rivers State.

Meanwhile, Naija News reported earlier this morning that some leaders of the PDP are planning to meet with the G-5.

The leaders are all out to pacify the governors.to support the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

A top official of the party that spoke with Daily Sun on the development said, “In the aftermath of reports of alleged moves by the aggrieved governors to endorse either the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, or his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Bola Tinubu, some PDP leaders have stepped up efforts to pacify the G-5.”

A member of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) who spoke on condition of anonymity said there are plans to get the governors to bury the hatchet.

The NEC official said, “I know that there are efforts. More efforts are being made by party leaders to pacify them the G-5 governors.”
