PDP Crisis: G5 Governors Push For National Convention, Make Fresh Demand For Southwest Chairman

Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are planning to meet with the five aggrieved governors of the party identified as the G-5.

The leaders are all out to pacify the governors to support the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

Some concerned party leaders have been imploring the governors not to support a presidential candidate from the opposition in 2023.

Members of the G-5 include, Nyesom Wike (Rivers State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo State).

A top official of the party that spoke with Daily Sun on the development said, “In the aftermath of reports of alleged moves by the aggrieved governors to endorse either the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, or his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Bola Tinubu, some PDP leaders have stepped up efforts to pacify the G-5.”

The leaders of the party are scared that if the aggrieved governors do not support PDP it might jeopardise the party’s chances at the polls.

A member of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) who spoke on condition of anonymity said there are plans to get the governors to bury the hatchet.

The NEC official said, “I know that there are efforts. More efforts are being made by party leaders to pacify them the G-5 governors.”
