The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has been turbaned as Sarkin Wasanni (which means king of games).

Naija News reports that the minister was turbaned by the Emir of Daria, His Royal Highness (HRH) Umar Farouk Umar, at his palace in Daura, Katsina State on Thursday.

The coronation ceremony attracted dignitaries that include top government functionaries, politicians, the diplomatic community and the organised private sector.

Speaking at the event, Umar said Dare was given the traditional title in recognition of his achievements and contributions to nation-building through grassroots sports development.

The monarch added that the minister was a conferred with the title for his contribution to the provision of new sports facilities and rehabilitation of the dilapidated ones, among which is the Daura township stadium in Katsina state.

Reacting, the minister appreciated the monarch for the title and promised to do more for sports in the country.

I feel so elated to be honoured by the Katsina Emirate with this prestigious title. It is at the same time a challenge for me to live up to the expectations of the Emir and the entire Emirate,” he said.
