Geography and Borders
Katsina shares an international border with the Republic of Niger to the north. Domestically, it is bordered by Kaduna State to the south, Kano and Jigawa States to the east, and Zamfara State to the west.
Governance: From 1987 to Date
Since its creation from old Kaduna State, Katsina has been a major political power center:
- Abdullahi Sarki Mukhtar (1987–1988): The first Military Governor.
- Saidu Barda (1992–1993): The first Executive Governor.
- Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (1999–2007): Transformed the state before becoming Nigeria’s President.
- Ibrahim Shema (2007–2015): Focused on free education and road networks.
