Messi Decides On His Stay At PSG After Clash With Mbappe In Qatar

Lionel Messi has reportedly agreed to extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for one more season.

Naija News reports that Messi led Argentina to victory in Qatar’s just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Before now, the 35-year-old player had said until after the World Cup before he would decide on whether to remain at PSG for another season or exit the club immediately after his current deal expires.

Messi’s current contract with the French club expires in the summer of 2023. Reports emerging, however, said the World Cup winner is planning to play another year.

According to the French daily Le Parisien, PSG reached a basic agreement with Jorge Messi, the superstar’s father and agent, on an extension by at least one season of his current contract.

Naija News recalls that Messi moved to PSG from the Spanish club FC Barcelona in 2021. Messi has reportedly also been in talks with MLS franchise Inter Miami, as well as being repeatedly linked with a return to Barcelona.

Qatar-backed PSG, however, has the greatest financial resources.

Messi had an encounter with his PSG teammate, Kylian Mbappe at the World Cup Final in Qatar as Argentina and France battled for the world football tournament trophy.

Argentina, however, defeated France to win their third world title in the match played last Sunday in Qatar. Mbappe and Messi may as well remain at PSG until further notice.
