Ex-boxer Viviane Obenauf Sentenced To 16 Years In Prison For Killing Her Husband

Retired Brazilian boxer, Viviane Obenauf has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for killing her husband with a baseball bat.

Viviane Obenauf’s husband identified as Thomas was found dead in their home in Switzerland in October 2020. He died when he was 61 years old.

Since then, Viviane Obenauf has been a prime suspect. She was arrested in connection with Thomas’ demise in December 2020.

Thomas died ten months after he got married to Obenauf.

His demise became a big scandal in Switzerland because he died after suffering serious injuries caused by a blunt object.

Not much information is known about the deceased due to Swiss protection law which helped to keep his details private.

During Viviane Obenauf’s trial which started nearly two years ago, the Police revealed that the ex-boxer struck her victim 19 times in the head with a baseball bat at their home in Interlaken.

Then, Obenauf pleaded not guilty but prosecutors proved their case with evidence that included blood samples taken from her clothes and his clothes.

Afterward, she was found guilty and then sentenced to 16 years in prison on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

Viviane Obenauf gained fame in Britain in 2016 after losing on points to Irish star Katie Taylor, 36, in a high-profile boxing match in Manchester.

Obenauf who retired in 2019 competed in the super featherweight and lightweight women’s divisions.

Before she retired, she had 14 wins and six defeats from 20 bouts. She also challenged for three world titles.

Since she retired, Obenauf worked in the food and beverage industry before opening her gym in Switzerland.
