Wigan Athletic Appoints Ivorian Legend As Head Coach

English Club, Wigan Athletic, has appointed former Ivorian defender, Kolo Toure, as the new manager.

According to the report, the former Liverpool defender lands his first manager Job after his brother, Yaya Toure, turned down the Job.

The Arsenal legend resigned from his coaching role at King’s Power ten days ago after being on the Job for nine months.

However, that put an end to his longtime collaboration with Brendan Rodgers, who he had first encountered while playing for Liverpool.

He later participated in Rodgers’ Celtic team as a player before joining the Foxes manager in Glasgow as a coach.

However, he is now prepared for the hot seat and takes Leam Richardson’s place after the Wigan manager was fired earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Latics, after relieving Richardson from his duty took to their social media platform to announce the African as their boss.

“We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Kolo Touré as the Club’s new First Team Manager!

“Welcome to Wigan, Kolo” reads the statement.

The 41-year-old has taken a significant stride to become the first ex-African international to manage a senior football in England.

Naija News recalls that the Arsenal Legend played in three World Cup tournaments for the Ivorian national team with 118 caps in total for the country.

However, with 354 Premier League matches under his belt, he will bring a lot of expertise to the DW Stadium.

Toure was a vital component of Arsenal’s Invincibles team in 2003–04, which twice won the Premier League.
